A
PUBLIC OUTDOOR ART EVENT
IN DOWNTOWN
ELLSWORTH
,
MAINE
Faith in
Action will hold our third public outdoor art event fundraiser in downtown
Ellsworth this summer for three weeks. In previous years, we featured fish
sculptures (“Fishing for Friends”) and cedar garden benches (“Visit
with Friends”), each individually decorated by an artist and offered for
sale at auction to benefit Faith in Action’s programs for the elderly and
disabled.
This year’s event will be called “Celebrate Sunshine with Friends” and
will feature sheet metal suns, manufactured by North Country Bells, a Maine
company. The sun can be
displayed indoors or out, hung on a wall or suspended by itself. In the
previous events, the variety of designs by the different artists was
delightful and attracted attention to Ellsworth. This year, Faith in Action
decided to make the event low-cost and fun; no businesses will be approached
to act as financial sponsors for the event and the event will center in the
downtown area of Ellsworth.
There will be categories for professional,
amateur and youth artists for a “Best of Show” prize. The sun
measures 24” in diameter and is made of steel.
It is finished with a black “pebble” coating that will accept
urethane sealer, paints or epoxy, or the artist may request the sun in
unfinished raw steel. Decoration
is up to the artist and his/her imagination.
Materials should be able to withstand exposure to weather. Children and amateur artists are encouraged to participate.
The suns will be available in
late April, and they must be returned to Faith in
Action no later than June 10, 2009.
Artists will be listed in the promotional materials that accompany
the preview display, and in the auction catalog.
Please include any contact or promotional information about the
artist (maximum 25 words) at the time the sun is returned to Faith in
Action. There is no charge or
payment for participation. Key dates include:
Monday, July 13 -- Preview
Party - Meet the Artists, Ellsworth Library
